Frequently Asked Questions regarding the Write Interface in Novelcrafter.

Updated over a week ago

What are sections? How can I use them?

Sections are a way to segment and separate text from your main novel within the write interface. You can use them to exclude content from the AI - perfect for NSFW content, or notes to self.

For more information, see here.

Can I use Grammarly/ProWritingAid etc with Novelcrafter?

If the app has a browser extension, then it is possible to use them within Novelcrafter. However, they often cause lagging to occur, so we would recommend only turning the extension on if you are editing a scene at a time. (disregard this, of course, but know that the lagging can be terrible).

Can I use Novelcrafter in two windows at the same time?

As of November 2024, Novelcrafter does not support being open on two devices/windows at the same time. If you choose to do this then your data may not sync/save. This is the most common cause of chapters or writing "disappearing".

What languages can I write in?

If the LLM you are using supports your language, then you can use it in Novelcrafter. You can find information about individual models here.

Why is the AI only writing 400 words at a time? How can I make it write more?

Can I undo a scene beat that I've clicked 'apply' to?

Whilst you can't undo scene beats once you've clicked apply, you can always rerun the prompt. If you have deleted old prose, you can go to scene history in the actions menu to bring it back.

What is the best LLM model to use with Novelcrafter?

We get asked this a lot! Whilst this is subjective, we have provided a list of the top models our users use here.

What is the difference between "scene beat" and "continue writing"?

When you type "/" into the write interface, two scene beat options appear.

The only difference between the two is that "continue writing" includes text already in it, for writers who want the LLM to continue writing without further guidance from the author.

How can I increase/decrease word output?

The system prompt (through discussion with our users) will give an output of 400 words.

If you want to change the word count, you can clone the system prompt, and change the word count.

Can I format my novel for publication in Novelcrafter

As of November 2024, you cannot format your novel within Novelcrafter for publication. You will need to bring the exported manuscript into your program of choice (for now).
