Collaboration and Coauthoring
Updated over 7 months ago

Novelcrafter offers a powerful collaboration feature that allows you to work with others on your writing projects. Whether you're coauthoring a novel or seeking feedback from fellow writers, the collaboration feature makes it easy to invite and manage contributors.

To access the collaboration feature, click on the cog icon in the top left corner of the novel interface, then go to collaboration. Here you can invite other collaborators.

Inviting Collaborators

To start collaborating on your project, you can invite other people via their email addresses. Simply specify whether they should have read-only access as a viewer or full edit access as an editor.

Please note that invited users must already have a Novelcrafter account. At the moment, they will not receive any notification about the invitation.

Right now you will not see changes made by others immediately. We therefore don't recommend working on the novel at the same time. Please only use this as part of your editing/revision process for now, not actual real-time cowriting.

Managing Invitations

Once you have invited collaborators, they can easily keep track of shared projects on their home screen. Look for the shared with you tag, which indicates novels you have been invited to.

Collaboration for Full Series

If you want to collaborate on an entire series, follow these steps:

  1. Open your home screen (novel shelf).

  2. Navigate to the series section.

  3. Select the scene you wish to collaborate on.

  4. Click on the collaboration tab.

By following these steps, you can grant access to the series codex, allowing your collaborators to contribute to the world-building and background information of your series. Please note that this access does not extend to the books themselves.

Collaboration for Novels

For collaborating on individual novels, follow these steps:

  1. Open the collaboration settings by clicking on the cover or title of the book. Alternatively, you can click on the cog icon located in the top left corner.

  2. Select the collaboration tab.

This will give your collaborators access to the current book and all its associated data. They can provide valuable feedback and suggestions to enhance your writing process.
