How to import a markdown document into Novelcrafter

Updated over a month ago

If you have a markdown document, it is just as simple to import it into Novelcrafter as a .docx file. This article will help walk you through the process.

What is markdown?

Markdown is a language that formats plain text with characters. For example, a number sign/hashtag (#) is used to denote headings, and two asterisks (**) either side of a phrase to make the text "bold".

Where can I get markdown documents?

You can save files from many places as markdown, including notion, scrivener, and obsidian.

Is the process different to import markdown from a .docx?

Not at all! Once you have your base file, the process to import is exactly the same. The system will use the markdown headers to denote scenes/chapters/acts in the same way that it does with a .docx file.

If you only have a text file for your story, adding the hashtag (#) symbol before chapter names to denote the headings is a quick and easy way to get your story ready for import.
