The 'sparkle' icon (see below) indicates that the field can be read by AI. If the icon is not present, it indicates that this is for human-organisation or reference, and not for use in your prompting.

Comparing these two snapshots of the codex, you can see that aliases, descriptions, progressions all have the sparkle icon, however external references doesn't.
