To allow full flexibility, Novelcrafter allows you to create your own custom prompts for the AI to use. This unlocks full creative freedom over the exact prose you want to generate.
Types of prompts
Novelcrafter allows you to create custom prompts for many types of actions:
Scene Beat Completions
Scene Summarization
Text Replacements (sometimes called "Laser Tools" by other platforms)
Tinker Chat Assistants
Scene Beat Completions
These take the scene beat, and its surrounding context into account to generate the prose based on the provided idea.
Scene Summarization
The AI will read your scene and summarize it into a concise, condensed version. You can access this feature through the actions menu for a scene in both the plan and write interface.
Text Replacements
These are simple text replacements that can replace your highlighted text to rewrite them. You can ask the AI to expand on ideas, shorten them to increase tension, and more.
The default prompts are simple expand, rephrase, and shorten prompts.
Potential ideas for creating your own text replacement prompts are removing AI-isms, changing the POV of the prose, or making the style more like your own writing.
Tinker Chat Assistants
These are custom chat assistants you can use to help you write your story. They can help you brainstorm ideas, or to help you develop your characters.
Think of this as a super-powered chat-gpt or claude, where the AI will pull from any codex entries or context that you provide it.
